extraction
About half now comes from in-situ leaching: oxygenated, mildly acid or alkaline solution is pumped through a sandstone orebody via wellfields and the uranium stripped out on ion-exchange resin, no mine required. Conventional ore is milled, acid-leached, solvent-extracted and precipitated as yellowcake (U₃O₈), then converted to UF₆, enriched in centrifuges, and made into fuel.
