The Machinery

The engines page asks how a machine works, what it is made of, and what it costs. These are the same questions, asked of the machines inside a cell — and they hold up, because a rotary motor with a stator and a drive shaft is a rotary motor whether it is built from steel or from protein. Each one names the elements it cannot run without, and those link back to the periodic table, where the same fact is stated from the other end.

From the Life database in Notion. Rates are quoted where they are well established, and the organism is named where the figure depends on it — a bacterial ribosome and a human one differ by about fivefold, and one number for both would be wrong twice. Element chips carry the biological class recorded on the periodic table. The glossary terms are whole-word matches against each entry's own text, computed at build time.
