Equation
Σ I = 0 at a node · Σ V = 0 around a loop
Field
Circuits
Named After
Gustav Kirchhoff
Symbols
I currents meeting at a junction · V voltage rises and drops around any closed loop · signs by direction
Year

Significance

Charge doesn't pile up and energy books balance — conservation laws dressed for circuit analysis, written by Kirchhoff as a 21-year-old student. Together with Ohm's law they solve any network of wires, from a flashlight to a motherboard.
