Michael Faraday
Symbols
E the field: force per unit test charge · F force felt by a small probe charge q · Q the source charge · r distance from it
Year

Significance

Faraday's great reframing: a charge doesn't reach across empty space to grab another — it fills space with a condition, and the other charge responds to the field where it sits. The idea that turned action-at-a-distance into field theory, and gave Maxwell something to write equations about.
